Studying Film to be a Filmmaker

All my life I have been a film enthusiast. One of my favorite memories from my childhood was when in weekends we went to Blockbuster to rent movies with my parents. Always we rented two: a "cult" film and one for me, the first which come to my mind is Hellboy. I liked a lot, because I enjoyed looking at the movie posters or the the DVD cases.
One day, my grandfather bought a Hi-8 Sony Handycam, with that camera and being helped by my dad, I did my first short film about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I did it with my toys: I had a script and my father was the cameraman.
In high school, I had a subject about Short Films, and there I did my first well done short film. The teacher didn't taught us very well, but they ask us for homeworks. Studiying by myself I made three professional shorts (kind of). Thanks for that subject, I could travelled to an Argentinian Film Festival in San Martin de los Andes, where I was a member of the jury. That experience changed my life, because before that I wasn't sure of what to study. I was thinking in Psychology and then do my films, but that was because my mother scared me for want to study a non conventional career. But after my journey to Argentina; watching a lot of movies, with directors answering questions, people clapping after films, my mind changed. I felt I need to do what I liked.
My mom understood and my dad was really excited.
Anyways, I think for art careers maybe it is not too necessary to study in conventional colleges or universities, I think art lives in persons and everyone can learn studiying by their selfes.
